3 votes for Heist, 2 for Sean Ferry, and a bunch more amazing folks!

I would highly recommend "Heist", located at 375 Alabama St, San Francisco.  They are our neighbors and they do some really great work, for some very professional clients as well as small companies like us.

Check out their work here:

We've had very positive experiences with Heist. http://www.heistprojects.com/ Founded by a couple solid, down to earth Berkeley grads. We had them do some post production work for us, but they do soup to nuts storytelling to production.
---
We share the floor of our building with a company by the name of Heist.
We've worked with them on three projects.
Very talented and very good people to work with.

Sean Ferry – used to do videos of concepts here at IDEO

I only assume he still does work for hire, but we've used Sean Ferry many times to great success.  A pleasant, professional, and talented fellow.

Michael Chung, who recently left IDEO NY, is now doing videos. He made some beautiful videos for Eileen Fisher while at IDEO.

He shot the movie Babies, wrote/directed/produced Everything Strange and New (a Sundance selection) and is a phenominal DP. Also shot this piece for us: http://www.vimeo.com/11438598

Hi Bobby,

Look no further, I'm your videographer! I'm a trained photojournalist and a fine art photographer. I'm more than capable of seeing what needs to be seen, while maintaining patient confidentiality (or inclusion) and making sure the lighting and sound and are of the best possible quality. I can give you examples of my work, and would be excited to do the "shoot" as it's a humanitarian effort, which is my bent.

"Jacinta Bouwkamp" <jacintabee@gmail.com>

Hi Bob,

I'm responding to your post on anthrodesign "seeking elegant ethnographer" for the Moore Foundation. I happen to work with one such individual. Her name is Yoon Cho, she's cc:ed above. The ethnoworks team - Yoon, Jay (also cc:ed) and I did a three week study shadowing/interviewing nurses on the floor in Nashville, working both the day and night shifts. The art of lighting and mic-ing in florescent lit hallways, curtain dimmed rooms and almost lightless supply closets is a language in which Yoon is more than conversant, as well as the often fast paced and unpredictable pace of the shadow.

With a little juggling, I believe Yoon and others can be available to do this work. Do let us know how to proceed on a bid.

Hi Bobby.  I would love to talk to you about what you need.  I run a small production company in San Francisco that specializes in documentary style media.  I've done work for everyone from small local businesses to Fortune 500 companies, and have delivered pieces from 30 second spots to broadcast hours for PBS.  We can work as a turnkey solution that can get involved early in the conceptual process, or we can handle just one part of your production or post -- we're flexible like that.  And we're always up for a new creative challenge.

I've shot in hospitals and I've done plenty of work for the health care and pharma industries, so I'm aware of the confidentiality issues.  Our background in creative documentary filmmaking means we're good an working unobtrusively in real world situations, and making things look great in the process.  Here are links to a couple recent pieces we created:

http://vimeo.com/11219110

I'd love to chat this week to get a better sense of your timeline and your needs.

"Alex Beckstead" <alex@4spfilms.com>

--------------------------.

I saw your message and had a couple thoughts.  One is that we have a good internal resource here at nbbj that i've been working with on some videos we've been doing. I've enclosed an example of one of the videos we recently did in a "live" setting as a simulation just prior to opening an ED dept as part of our transition services offer.  Click on the link http://vimeo.com/16476387 and use the passwork "rev" (no quotes) to watch. The first minute and a half or so is an intro but there's a lot of "live" footage after that.

Secondly, if that doesnt make sense budget wise, i can ask our videographer if she knows of any freelancers down in your area that may be appropriate.

I graduated from the Stanford graduate program in design in 1999, and have about eighteen years of experience with medical products used in hospital settings, including extensive experience with nurses in intensive care. Having been a contractor with IDEO's medical practice in the past, and a current advocate of design thinking, I'd love to help you and Kaiser in the nursing shift-change project (which I imagine is an expansion of the original IDEO project?).

Specifically, I'd like to propose Mauricio Quijano (copied above) for your consideration as a videographer. Mauricio has extensive experience as video camera operator, director, editor, and producer, in a variety of applications including news, events, performances, as well as medical applications such as surgeries at the Stanford Medical Center. He would be able to define an appropriate choice of wireless mics and camera(s) for hospital settings, carry out the shoots, and perform the editing either in Avid or FinalCut Pro.

Mauricio happens to be my brother, and I would like to collaborate with him in your project, where I would bring in my experience in  performing user observations in hospital settings (which I've done in intensive care, OR, cath lab, cardiology, radiology, and radiation oncology), being particularly attentive to HIPAA regulations on patient privacy.

Please let me know how we can learn more about your needs, describe in more detail our capabilities/credentials, and explore the possibility of carrying out your nurse shift changes video at Kaiser. I can be reached at 650.714.4912.

I heard about your nurses video project through the Stanford Design School list and would like to learn more. I'm an experienced award-winning producer, cameraman, and editor and I have the eye, camera skills and necessary equipment to make an great collection of videos.  You can see some of my documentary, music video, and promotional video work at http://www.jacobklein.com/video/
